U-R-G-E
Yup, it was a great night, and I love the Bowery Ballroom. We missed The Shazam, which is a shame because I have an early album that kicks ass (Godspeed The Shazam!). Literally, as I walked in they hit some great guitar licks and shouted, "thanks so much, we're the Shazam. We'll see you again, Urge Overkill is coming up!" It's my Vicious City curse to miss stuff like that.
Now, to some of Dave's post.
(1) Yes, we appeared to be having the most fun there, except for one guy in a red shirt up in the balcony. The rest of the folks in the balcony were *sitting* -- mother of god!?!? So no more shit that DC crowds suck; it's indie crowds across the board!
(2) Some good merch, but expensive and they only took cash. Tooms is hysterical because he told me about the cool medallion, "but it's $30." NO, Dave, the problem with it is that it's a choker for a chick! Had to make fun of him; had the merch girls giggling too.
(3) Best merch was from The Shazam -- a pink baby tee that said "Sweet Bitch" on it. It's the name of one of the songs from Godspeed. Awesome.
(4) Shazam guys were down in the bar after the show. I mentioned I came up from DC "just to see the show," bought their CD directly from Not Lame, etc. Very little interest. Normally I'd be pissed, but there were 5 hot Bowery Ballroom NY-type young chicks all swooning over them. I understand. ;) I did, however, continue to interrupt to plead that they come to D.C. I don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon.
(5) URGE was good; Nash took off his shirt which I thought was not necessary, but hey, he's a rock n' roller. They played my favorite songs -- Bottle of Fur and Erica Kane back to back. Just a really good rock show. Well worth the train, hotel, blood, sweat and tears. Oh yeah, and it was good to see Tooms, too. ;)
