Bad news, all. Along with the KROCK-ification of the world, pioneering Long Island alternative/new wave station WLIR was sold to Univision and went Spanish Language.

I used to listen to that station in the early 80s! When we visited my cousin Christine in Eastchester, I'd be able to tune it in. Not well, but enough. Man I loved that. My first taste of hearing alternative music I didn't buy from the bargain bin. [Okay, in St. Pete we had one hour of 'alternative' radio on USF's station, at 11:00 p.m. Sunday night. And of course there was the IRS' Cutting Edge on MTV. God bless Peter Zaremba.]
